Fintan Browne - Veterinary Surgeon
Fintan Browne MVB Veterinary Surgeon

Fintan Browne graduated from UCD in 1996. He spent a year working in a mixed practice in Dublin before moving to a busy farm animal practice for another year. An exciting part of his career, Fintan got to use all of the elements of his veterinary education to treat a wide range of farm animal species in the beautiful mountains and valleys of South Tipperary.

He still remembers with fondness the easy hospitality of his farmer clients, and the laid-back wisdom of his pipe-smoking boss, Toby Moran. However, he felt his native city calling so he returned to Dublin. He joined Anicare in 1998 and has been with the practice ever since.

Fintan is a committed general practitioner with a keen interest in surgery and dermatology, and an enthusiasm for all areas of companion animal practice. He has a particular interest in the neurological diseases that affect Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and has worked with clients from as far afield as Cavan and Wicklow on these challenging cases. He is also committed to lifelong learning and attends many Continuing Veterinary Education courses to further his skills in a wide range of areas. It is his engagement with continuing education that led to his involvement with Veterinary Ireland, the veterinary profession’s representative body in Ireland.

Fintan has been the chairperson of VICAS (the Veterinary Ireland Companion Animal Society), sat on the Board of Directors of Veterinary Ireland and was a member of the National Council of Veterinary Ireland, and was also on the veterinary nursing sub-committee of the Veterinary Council of Ireland, the profession’s regulatory body. Fintan was also on the local organising committee that is bringing the FECAVA (Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations) 2013 Eurocongress to Dublin.

Fintan has been involved with the Blanchardstown Veterinary Hospital since its early planning stages back in 2006. Converting a suburban dwelling into an effective veterinary hospital was a challenge that he relished and he worked closely with the architect to create a safe and welcoming environment for clients and their pets. Fintan continually works to optimize the layout of the practice to best meet the different needs of the pets that we care for. His commitment to this is evident from the moment you step inside the front door.

When he is not working, Fintan enjoys spending time with his young family and their pet dogs Poppy (who was rehomed from Dog’s Trust in January 2011) and Pip. He has an interest in computers (especially Linux and all things open source), photography, art and design, music, popular science and good coffee.
